Q's Beach Bug (Uploaded from: Al Quattrocchi)
Step 1: Cover entire shank with thread and tie a small clump of orange wool at the point of the hook. Add a few strands of copper crystal flash.
Step 2: Tie in side grizzley hackles on each side and hit the wraps with some head cement. Cut two pieces of sili-legs approximately two inches in length and fold them around your thread and onto the top of the shank. This will allow you to put them exactly where you want them. Fold them back, tie in and cement.
Step 3: Tie in your lead eyes. I usually put a bead of zap-a-gap on them to keep them from rolling around shank.
Step 4: Invert hook in vise. Wrap your thread back to the orginal tie in point and wrap chenille around the shank to the back of the lead eyes. Bring the thread to the front of the eyes.
Step 5: Measure a sparse amount of squirrel tail to just short of the length of the fly and tie in front of the eyes. I like to take a few wraps back behind the eyes so the squirrel lays down and doesn't stand up.
Step 6: Trim the sili-legs so they don't wrap around the shank and foul. Finish wraps with one coat of Five Minute Epoxy.
