Reef Crab (Uploaded from: Kim Zetterberg)
My Reef Crab is tied Merkin-style, using marabou "mouth-parts"/ legs to stimulate fish into eating the crab. Step-by-step instructions for tying the fly; complete with photos; can be found on the Fliflicker Message Board posting titled "Wikiki bonefish," October 2007. Fancier versions can also be tied with rubber legs and mono. eyes. The fly is designed for use in slower waters (i.e. less current than we usually have in the surf), and has gotten me hooked up with my first bonefish, striped bass back in New England feeding on calico crabs, and a rather large white sea bass during slack water in Newport Harbor a few months ago. Simple is good!
